100 days in the USA

How hard is it to find a job on your own?

100 days in the USA

Postby Luisette on Tue Sep 04, 2007 1:50 am

Can anybody give me advice please? This is importand for me. A recruiter promised me to fill in my I 140 and she told me that since I have a passport with a 3 months visitors visa on it I could come and stay 100 days in the US and she would file again for me and I could be working much quicker as oposed to waiting in my country for the visa. Is this true? Who could know?

tourist visa to the US

Postby aafen on Fri Sep 07, 2007 1:54 am

Luisette,

Since you have a tourist visa, there should be no problem coming to the US to meet with a recruiter. Being able to sit down, face to face, with a recruiter is definitely better thant communicating by telephone or e-mail. It should get things moving along faster.

If your recruiter is looking to place you with a local hospital, you may even be able to visit your future employer.

I don't know if you'll be able to convert your tourist visa to a work visa during your stay. Perhaps someone else can answer that question?

Traveling to the USA

Postby coleskimo on Wed Sep 19, 2007 1:51 pm

Dear L,

Currently it is not a good idea to come to the USA with a visitor visa, what your agency is offering you it is not possible at this time because of the Retrogression. The only way you can obtain a work permit is if you file an I-485 concurrently with your I-140, but because of the retrogression the USCIS is not accepting I-485 applications. Have your agency file the I-140 now, and wait for the Retrogression to be lifted, then you can come to the USA as a visitor and file an I-485 to adjust your status.

dear coleskimo,

I am in the US right now with a tourist visa, i was thinking if i should extend my stay here and wait for retro to be lifted and be a bum while waiting OR just go back to the Philippines then wait for retro there and volunteer in a hospital while waiting, atleast may experience.

According to your post,

Have your agency file the I-140 now, and wait for the Retrogression to be lifted, then you can come to the USA as a visitor and file an I-485 to adjust your status.

My question is, pag finile na ng agency ko yung I-140 ko now then I went back to the Philippines..Can I still go back here pag nalift na yung retro on a tourist visa then file for I-485? May nakapagsabi kse saken na baka daw ma-airport to airport ako kse baka makita daw sa records that my petition is being processed at makikita na ang purpose ko of coming to US is to change status and not to tour. Ano po ba ang magandang gawin?

I am a Tibetan Nurse, who is born and brought up in India, currently working in reputed hospital in PUNE since two years after completion of 3 years course in the same hospital. My aim is to reach US, where I can earn some good pay for my work. I came to learn that I need to give a test to qualify for a job in US. What is that and where do I need to do it and How?

It would be grateful, if somebody can help me out.

hi tebetan nurse

Never met a tibetan nurse before. Actually dindn't know they existed! That sais something about my education I guess.
Ok I believe that you can make good money in USA, Depending of how much you are making know. They offer me from 19 dollar an hour to 25 dollar an hour. For me it is OK since Im making that money allready in my country. So it is not really a raise.
To come to the USA you need to pass the NCLEX exam for nursing. It is a board exam. But before you are able to do so you need to sit for your englisch exam. That is proof of spoken en written english. You can do either TOEFLE of IELTS. After you pass this you need to study to pass the NCLEX and that you may qualify. There is much more to the procedure but in short this is it. You may want to start your proces by finding yourself a nice rectruiter that helps you with all the steps on the way.
Healthstaff may be a good one. Just try to locate them on hte internet.
I hope you can find your way or send me an e-mail
Nice speaking with you, bye
