An international Student

Postby ayke on Tue Nov 06, 2007 12:29 am

Dear Nurse Recruiter,

I am an international Student, and i have just finished a second degree in Nursing (I am a new nurse). Currently I am licensed to work as a registered nurse in the state of PA. Also i have my Visa Screen Cert. However, I am trying to figure the best route to take to obtain a working visa through work; such as an H1B- visa and or a green card.

Currently i have a Job offer and i am schedule to start working in December 2007 (at a university teaching hospital) with the intent that the H1B - work visa if applied by last month or early this month will be obtained before my employment start date.

Recently i am told by the coordinator of the nursing recruitment office that the hospital only sponsors experienced nurses. Hence, the hospital can not sponsor a new graduate.
I opted to pay for all the financial cost associated with the H1B-visa application, but i was told it is illegal for me to pay for all the cost; and that the employer is mandated to pay a bulk of the cost $500 for fraud and $1000 for Premium processing fee (I am not so sure if this is a USCIS policy or the Institution’s policy).

Anyway, since this case is quite unique ,I will like to know what route to take because I may have to go for a job search again.

Right now i am still attending school, and i am maintaining my Student status.

Thank you :)
