Developing New FEN Orientation/Training Program in US

Postby BetsyBurtis on Tue Aug 18, 2009 7:44 pm

Hello,

I work at Cross Cultural Communication Systems, Inc. in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. I am developing a program to help foreign educated nurses become oriented to the US healthcare system. It will include accent reduction, help with American culture, understanding and succeeding in the US healthcare culture, and skills in healthcare communication (vocabulary, idioms, projection, assertiveness and conflict resolution).

I'm just starting out by researching what the needs are and I can use your help. Do you think such a training program would be helpful? Do you think it should be offered directly to nurses, or through a US nursing school? What should be included that would help make the transition to living and working in the US easier?

If you'd like to email me directly, or speak on the telephone rather than in writing, you can reach me at bburtis@cccsorg.com and we can set up a time to speak. Thanks for your help.
